Cedar, Eastern White (thuja occidentalis)
|
|
|
Named the 'Tree of Life'
by French explorer Jacques Cartier because an infusion of its needles saved his troops from scurvy, thuja has been an important
North American herb. Today, we know that thuja is an extremely powerful oil that must be used carefullly to avoid its
toxic effects. Thuja should NEVER be taken internally. Topically, thuja is reportedly effective against genital
warts, cystitis, prostatitis and STDs. Others claim thuja is effective with obesity, cellulitis, seborrhea, roseacea,
and chronic tendonitis.
In Chinese Medicine, thuja is considered VERY moving with affinities to the Liver and Kidney,
especially useful for damp-cold bi-obstruction.
Thuja should be used sparingly, diluted and for short periods of
time.
